Using Advanced Power Management to Optimize GaN PA Performance
Watch the Video >
Qorvo's ACT41000 is a programmable output, low noise, RFPoL (Radio Frequency Point of Load) step down Regulator with auxiliary bias supply regulators. This synchronous step-down voltage regulator supports a wide input voltage from 4.5 to 40 V and integrates both the high side and low side MOSFETS. These 50 mΩ RDSON transistors, driven by the optimized 5V self-biasing, enable high efficiency to reduce power losses.
The product's main buck converter can be dynamically programed to an output voltage between 3 and 24 V in 12.5 mV steps via the I2C interface or analog feedback. It also can dynamically program output current between 0 and 4 A in 256 steps via the I2C interface in a constant-current (CC) operation mode. The main buck operates in a proprietary current mode control that supports external clock syncing for switching frequencies between 450 kHz and 2.25 MHz and spread-spectrum. ACT41000 has built-in iDAC for Bias Detection and automatic system level bias threshold trigger for PA Vdrain bias applications. The product also integrates a 5 V / 350 mA mini-buck converter and a 20 mA AUX LDO.
ACT41000 RFPoL is available in a 32-pin 5 mm x 5 mm QFN package with a power-optimized footprint and exposed pad for improved thermal performance.

ACT41000EVK1-104 Evaluation Tool User's Guide
This document describes the characteristic and operation of the Qorvo ACT41000EVK1-104 evaluation kit (EVK). It provides setup and operation instructions, schematic, layout, BOM, and test data.
To communicate with the ACT41000EVK1-104 a USB Dongle and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is provided.
This EVK demonstrates the ACT41000-104T power management IC, which has a 22V default output voltage. It is directly compatible with Qorvo’s QPA2211 GaN Ka-band RF power amplifier as well as many other Qorvo products with similar output voltages.
The ACT41000 Graphical User Interface (GUI) (rev. 1.6) is packaged in a ZIP file that includes the software and all necessary drivers to communicate with the ACT41000 Evaluation Tool, as well as all descriptions how to use the tool.
Power Bias Solution for RF GaAs and GaN Power Amplifier, Vd and Vg Bias Supplies with Autonomous Bias Point Search Routine
ACT41000-104-REF01 reference design provides both the drain and gate voltages for many of Qorvo's RF PAs. It automatically searches for and optimizes the RF PA gate voltage to set the required Idq bias current. This reference design demonstrates how Qorvo's ACT41000 simplifies RF PA system level design and cost. The design is specifically configured for the QPA2211, but it can be easily modified for many other RF PAs. It operates with up to 40V input voltage and 24V @ 4A drain voltage. The reference design User's Guide can be downloaded here. The custom GUI for this reference design can be downloaded here.
